Volunteer Opportunities

Join the fun of The Nottingham Festival by volunteering!
This community event could not take place without many dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Sign up with a friend or family member and work together! Sign up as a group and work together! The benefits of volunteering:

  1. Help for 4 hours and enjoy the Festival for the rest of the day for free (before or after your shift).
  2. For every 8 hours you help, receive one free ticket for you or a friend, to be used on any Festival day.
  3. Students earn community service hours.
  4. Involvement in a community-wide event that’s fun and exciting!

The Nottingham Festival will be held in the large open space between Simi Valley City Hall and the Simi Valley Public Library on Saturdays and Sundays, November 4 & 5, 11 & 12.

There are many ways to volunteer – with or without a Renaissance period costume.

We need volunteers on the days leading up to the Festival, Festival Days, and days after the Festival. Volunteer on one or more days! Training/directions will be provided for each position.

The following is a list of volunteer positions sorted by job title.

Cashier
Sell tickets (cash or credit cards only)
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12 Shifts: 8:30am – 12:30pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 3
Minimum age: 21 years old. Costume not required but preferred (at least a shirt and head decoration).

Handyman-set up days
Assist staff with building the site. Light Handyman work. Must provide own work gloves and tools: hammer, screwdrivers, drill.
Days:

Shift: noon – 4:00pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 4
Minimum age: 16 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Handyman-take down days
Assist staff with dismantling the site. Must provide own gloves and tools: hammer, screwdrivers, drill.
Days: November 13 & 14
Shifts: 8:00am – noon, noon – 4:00pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 2
Minimum age: 16 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Parking Lot Attendant
Assist public with finding parking spaces and entering and exiting parking lots. Assist pedestrians with navigating through the parking lots safely.
Days: November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am – 1:00pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 4
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required. Will be provided with safety vest.

Pass House Volunteer
Assist with checking in all merchants, guilds, performers, other volunteers.
Days:
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12

Shifts: 8:00am – noon, 11:30am – 3:30pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 6
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required.

Renaissance Master Pavilion (RMP) Docent
Will read basic bios about famous historical figures and answer questions regarding scheduling. Will “cry” and advertise coming acts and attract a crowd.
Days: November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am – 1:00pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm, 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 2
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in public. Costume required.
This position requires attending one pre-faire workshop for training. Dates to choose from are: Dates TBA, 1:00pm – 4:00 p.m. Meet at the Simi Valley Civic Center Park, between City Hall and Simi Valley Public Library. Parking available at City Hall (2929 Tapo Canyon Road).

Sweeper-take down days
Go over the entire property with magnetic vacuum (provided).
Days: November 13 & 14
Shifts: 8:00am – noon, noon – 4:00pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 3
Minimum age: 16 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Ticket Takers at Front Gate
Welcome the public and collect tickets as they enter the Festival.
Days: November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am – 1:00pm, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 4
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Costume required.

Trash Detail Volunteer
Working in pairs in a specific area of the Festival, help keep the grounds clean by picking up trash. Separate trash from bottles and cans. Taking full bags to nearby dumpster. Gloves and bags will be provided.
Days:
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12

Shifts: 11:00am – 1:00pm, 12:30pm – 2:30pm, 2:00pm – 4:00pm, 3:30pm – 5:30pm.
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 8
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required.
NOTE: Give us one, 2-hour shift and enjoy the Festival for free the rest of the day!

Welcome Center Volunteer
Will answer questions from the public so must be knowledgeable in basic history of the time period and how a Renaissance Faire works.
Days: November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am – 1:30pm, 1:00pm – 5:30pm
Number of volunteers needed per shift: 2
Minimum age: 21 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in public. Costume required.
