Volunteer Opportunities

Nottingham Festival is looking for friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing individuals who are willing to deliver superior guest service.
We have a variety of seasonal positions available. This is a chance to make new friends and build relationships that will last a lifetime. With so many positions to choose from, we are sure to have one that is right for you!

This community event could not take place without many dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Sign up with a friend or family member and work together! Sign up as a group and work together!

  1. Help for 4 hours and enjoy the Festival for the rest of the day for free (before or after your shift).
  2. For every 8 hours you help, receive one free ticket for you or a friend, to be used on any Festival day.
  3. Students earn community service hours.
  4. Involvement in a community-wide event that’s fun and exciting!

Construction Build Crew

Construction experience prefered.  Must be used to working with tools. Must provide own work gloves and tools, including safety equipment.  May require physical exertion and lifting.
Weekends Sep & Oct: Specific dates TBA
Shift: TBA
Minimum age: 18 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Handyman (Set-up days)

Assist staff with building the site. Light Handyman work. Must provide own work gloves and tools: hammer, screwdrivers, drill.
Oct 21 & 22, 28 & 29, Nov 13-17
Shift: 8:00am- noon, noon - 4:00pm
Minimum age: 16 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Handyman (Tear-down days)

Assist staff with dismantling the site. Must provide own gloves and tools: hammer, screwdrivers, drill.
November 13-17, & 20-22
Shifts: 8:00am - noon, noon - 4:00pm
Minimum age: 16 years old. Comfortable work clothes and shoes required.

Pass House

Assist with checking in all merchants, guilds, performers, other volunteers.
Oct  28 & 29, Nov 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 8:00am - noon, 11:30am - 3:30pm
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required.

Security

Volunteers with proffessional demeanor needed to help secure gates and check passes backstage.  Also help secure and control drive-on gates.
Oct 28 & 29, Nov 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 8:00am-noon, 11:00am-3:00pm, 2:00-6:00pm
Minimum age: 21 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in to people and enforcing rules.  No costume required.

Trash Detail

Help keep the festival ground clean by picking-up trash.  Separate trash from bottles and cans. Taking full bags to nearby dumpster. Gloves and bags will be provided.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 11:00am - 1:00pm, 12:30pm - 2:30pm, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, 3:30pm - 5:30pm.
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required.
NOTE: Give us one, 2-hour shift and enjoy the Festival for free the rest of the day!

Parking Lot Attendant

Assist public with finding parking spaces and entering and exiting parking lots. Assist pedestrians with navigating through the parking lots safely.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am - 1:00pm, 12:30pm - 4:30pm
Minimum age: 16 years old. Costume not required. Will be provided with safety vest.

Box Office Cashier

Sell tickets (cash or credit cards only)
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 8:30am - 12:30pm, 12:30pm - 4:30pm
Minimum age: 21 years old. Costume not required but preferred (at least a shirt and head decoration).

Front Gate Staff

Welcome the public and collect tickets as they enter the Festival.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:30am-5:30pm (4 hour shift will be assigned)
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Costume required. (costuming may be provided depending on availability)

Merchandise Booth & Costume Rental

Retail sales position selling festival merchandise or renting out costumes to customers.  Must be comfortable speaking to the public.  Previous sales experience prefered. May handle cash and credit card sales.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:30am - 1:30pm, 1:30pm - 5:30pm
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in public. Costume required.

Must be available for training on Oct 28 or 29

Games

Help attract customers & opperate games.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:30am - 1:30pm, 1:30pm - 5:30pm
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in public. Costume required.

Must be available for training on Oct 28 or 29

Renaissance Masters Pavilion (RMP) Docent

Will read basic bios about famous historical figures and answer questions regarding scheduling. Will hawk and advertise coming acts and attract a crowd.
November 4 & 5, 11 & 12
Shifts: 9:00am - 1:00pm, 12:30pm - 4:30pm, 2:00pm - 6:00pm
Minimum age: 16 years old.
Must be comfortable speaking in public. Costume required (costuming may be provided depending on availability).
This position requires attending one pre-faire workshop for training. Dates to choose from are: Dates TBA, 1:00pm - 4:00 p.m. Meet at the Simi Valley Civic Center Park, between City Hall and Simi Valley Public Library. Parking available at City Hall (2929 Tapo Canyon Road).

Beverage Dept. Volunteers

Available positions include: Pickle Sales, Soda Sales, Cashier, Ale Stand Beverage Sales, Ale Stand Management, Tapster, and more.

You must be at least 14 years of age to be eligible for Soda and/or Pickle sales and at least 21 years of age for all Ale Stand positions.

Pickle Pusher, Turkey Leg Server, Coffee Server (14+)

This person sells one of the following:

  • Individual prepackaged pickles from a tray held by a neck strap, basket, wagon or cart.
  • Turkey Legs from the Turkey Leg booth
  • Coffee and other hot beverages from the Coffee booth.

This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival has limited costumes available.  If working at the counter at Turkey Legs or Coffee Booth, you may be costumed from the waist up only. You must provide your own period-style closed toe footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Duties:

  • Interact creatively with customers while providing refreshments in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Knowledge of drink items and prices
  • Handling all cash register duties, including opening and closing of operations
  • Keep work area clean and orderly Restock merchandise
  • Handle minor customer complaints with skill and finesse

Qualifications:

  • MUST possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • MUST poses basic math skills
  • Friendly and able to work well with others
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Meet company grooming standards

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working mostly outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work around bees
  • Requires standing for long periods of time, lifting at least 20lbs, bending and walking
  • Must be able to work long shifts if necessary
  • Must have closed-toed, comfortable walking shoes (no tennis shoes!)
Soda Slinger (14+)

This person sells individual non-alcoholic beverages from a tray held by a neck strap, basket, wagon or cart. This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival does not provide costume. You must provide your own period-style costume including closed-toe, comfortable walking footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Duties:

  • Interact creatively with customers while providing refreshments in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Knowledge of drink items and prices
  • Handling all cash register duties, including opening and closing of operations
  • Keep work area clean and orderly Restock merchandise
  • Handle minor customer complaints with skill and finesse

Qualifications:

  • MUST possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • MUST poses basic math skills

Cashier (18+)

This position holder must be able to work at a fast pace and be professional at all times. This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival does not provide costume. You must provide your own period-style costume including closed-toe, comfortable walking footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Duties:

  • Interact creatively with customers using language from Elizabethan era
  • Maintain appropriate dress and behavior of time period
  • Provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Knowledge of drink prices
  • Handle all cash register duties, include opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer
  • Keep work area clean and orderly

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • MUST possess basic math skills
  • MUST successfully complete basic math skills test
  • MUST possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • Have steady transportation
  • Friendly and able to work well with others
  • Meet company grooming standards

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working mostly outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work long shifts if necessary
Ale Stand Server (21+)

This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival does not provide costume. You must provide your own period-style costume including closed-toe, comfortable walking footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Duties:

  • Interact creatively with customers using language from Elizabethan era
  • Maintain appropriate dress and behavior of time period
  • Check ID's for any patron under the age of 30
  • Aid patrons with extensive knowledge of prices and information on all beers and wines
  • Take and present customer orders with speed and accuracy
  • Provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Handle all cash register duties include opening and closing procedures
  • Answer questions and offer suggestions to patrons
  • Keep work area clean and orderly by assisting with restocking and maintaining inventory, cleaning countertops, etc.
  • Handle minor customer complaints

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bar service experience a plus, but not required
  • MUST have a current ABC Server Certificate
  • MUST have a current TB Test
  • Must poses basic math skills
  • MUST successfully complete basic math skills test
  • Accurately handles cash transactions
  • Adheres to alcohol awareness procedures for preventing patron intoxication
  • MUST possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • Have steady transportation
  • Friendly and able to work well with others
  • Meet company grooming standards

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working mostly outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work around bees
  • Requires standing for long periods of time, lifting 20lbs or more, bending and walking
  • Must be able to work long shifts if necessary
Ale Stand Tapster (21+)

This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival does not provide costume. You must provide your own period-style costume including closed-toe, comfortable walking footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Duties:

  • Opening and closing the Ale Stand each day; getting the stand ready for business each day
  • Assist with opening and/or closing inventory each day
  • Maintain appropriate dress and behavior of time period
  • Assist with pouring of drinks at various stands as necessary
  • When needed, provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Keep work area clean and orderly by restocking and maintaining inventory, wiping down cleaning all sticky surfaces, clean beer drainage, sweeping booth, cleaning countertops, etc.
  • Handle minor customer complaints
  • Load, store and transport 20lb bags of ice to various locations throughout the park
  • Lift and haul cases of drinks and boxes of supplies to various locations throughout the park
  • Change CO2 cylinders
  • Tap kegs as needed
  • Answer questions and offer suggestions to patrons

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bar service experience a plus, but not required
  • MUST have a current ABC Server Certificate
  • MUST have a current TB Test
  • Must possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • Have steady transportation
  • Friendly and able to work well with others
  • Meet company grooming standards

Working Conditions:

  • Requires working mostly outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work around bees
  • Requires standing for long periods of time, lifting 20lbs or more, bending and walking

Ale Stand Manager (21+)

This job requires the Manager to be onsite and in their assigned Ale Stand at least one and a half hours prior to festival opening and stay later at closing. This is a costumed position. The Nottingham Festival does not provide costume. You must provide your own period-style costume including closed-toe, comfortable walking footwear to be approved by Costume Dept.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete oversight and operation of the Ale Stand
  • Maintain complete and accurate inventories
  • Supervise and assist in setup and breakdown of Ale Stand
  • Supervise all stand volunteers
  • Oversee all cleanliness and sanitation of Ale Stand
  • Complete all inventory and order forms accurately
  • Verify any questionable Driver's License, State ID, passport or Military ID

Duties:

  • Maintain appropriate dress and behavior of time period
  • Check ID's for any patron under the age of 30
  • Provide friendly and quality customer service
  • Handle all cash register duties if necessary, including opening and closing procedures
  • Answer questions and offer suggestions to patrons
  • Handle customer complaints

Qualifications:

  • Possess leadership ability, a pleasant personality and appearance, be reliable and self sufficient
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bar service experience a plus, but not required
  • MUST have a current ABC Server Certificate
  • MUST have a current TB Test
  • Must possess basic math skills
  • MUST successfully complete basic math skills test
  • MUST possess ability to be customer-service oriented, friendly and motivated to provide necessary information and assistance to our valued patrons
  • Have steady transportation
  • Friendly and able to work well with others
  • Meet company grooming standards
